Edith
Wharton (1862-1937) designed and built The Mount in 1902.
She lived there for nearly a decade and called it "My
first real Home". A
Edith Warthon colaborated with Francis
L.V. Hoppin, architect, who designed the house, a twenty-nine-room
American classical mansion, outbuildings, gate, and gardens;
Odgen Codman Jr., who designed the interior and Beatrix
Jones Farrand (Wharton's niece), who designed the kitchen
garden and the drive.
