About
the Museum
Formed in 1992 to restore Car. No. 10. Restoration completed in
1999. Visitors Center opened in 1996, additional rolling stock added
since
then.
The museum provides 15-minute interpretive rides on a beautifully
restored 1896 wooden electric trolley car. Visitors can experience
what
travel was like 100 years ago. Additional displays in Visitors Center
show
scenes from the local trolley line, including the Bridge of Flowers,
which
was built to carry the trolleys.
Car No 10 is a 1896 electric wooden trolley, saved and restored
by the
museum. For thirty years it carried freight and passengers on the
Shelburne Falls and Colrain Street Railway. Then it sat in a farmers
yard
for 65 years, waiting to be preserved. It now looks and runs just
as it did
CV Caboose 4015 is a classic wooden railroad caboose, built
in 1910, and
undergoing restoration.
Baldwin 0-4-0T No. 10 is one of two self-firing steam locomotives
ever
built, and awaits restoration.
Pictures and artifacts in the Visitors Center detail the history
of the local
trolley and steam railroads.
