Dittrick Medical History Center is dedicated to the study
of the medical past through a distinguished collection of
rare books, museum artifacts, archives, and images.

Hours
The
Center is open for researchers from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Monday through Friday.
The Dittrick Museum of Medical History is open to the public
from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Closed Saturdays and
Sundays; January 1, Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday
Observance (January 15); Memorial Day (May 29); July 4; Labor
Day (September 6); Thanksgiving and the day after (November
25 and 26) December 24 and Christmas).

Information
Directions to get to the Museum:
Location, Directions: The Center is located on the third
floor of the Allen Memorial Medical Library at the corner of Euclid
Avenue and Adelbert Road, 11000 Euclid Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio 44106-1714.
From
downtown Cleveland: follow Chester Avenue east five miles to
Euclid Avenue in University Circle.
Turn left onto Euclid. The second traffic light is Adelbert Rd.
The Dittrick Center is located at the corner of Euclid and Adelbert.
From
I-90 West or East:
take Exit #177 to Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive. Turn south (away
from Lake Erie) and travel through Rockefeller Park for three miles
to East 105th Street in University Circle. Cross 105th St. and follow
sign to Euclid Avenue. Almost immediately, turn left on Jeptha Drive
(a sign directs you to Botanical Garden, Art and Natural History
Museums). Bear right at the top of Jeptha Drive onto Wade Oval.
Follow to East Blvd., turn right and follow East Blvd. to Euclid
Avenue. Turn left. First traffic
light is Adelbert Rd. The Dittrick Center is at the corner of Euclid
and Adelbert.
From I-77 North or I-71 North: take I-90 East to Exit #177.
Follow directions above. From Cleveland-Hopkins Airport, take I-71
north and follow the above directions.
From I-271 North: take Exit #32 to Cedar Road. Bear right
onto Cedar Road and travel west 4.5 miles to the bottom of a steep
hill and traffic light at interesection with Murray Hill Road. Turn
right on Murray Hill Road, bear left at traffic light, and cross
bridge to junction with Adelbert Road. Bear left on Adelbert. The
Center is at the corner of Euclid Avenue and Adelbert Road.

About
the Museum
The Dittrick Medical History Center is dedicated to the study of
the medical past through a distinguished collection of rare books,
museum artifacts, archives, and images. The Dittrick originated
as part of the Cleveland Medical Library Association (est. 1894)
and
today functions as an interdisciplinary study center within the
College of Arts and Sciences of Case Western Reserve University
in Cleveland, Ohio
Collections
Medical Artifacts: 75,000 artifacts with large collections
relating to microscopy and surgical instrumentation, and endoscopy.
Medical Archives: Our holdings include the papers of local
medical societies and health care institutions, including medical
schools, and hospitals. The papers of individual physicians and
others in the health sciences professions are also found in the
Archives. All of this material is freely available for research
and scholarship.
Rare Books Collection: 60,000 books covering medicine and
science and to make up the Library's rare book collection. These
books date from the late 14th century into the 20th
century.
Image Collection: This collection contains several thousand
images in all media and is often used to provide illustrations for
lectures, books and exhibits.
